How do I support The Sprawl?

Become a member! You can make either a recurring or one-time donation.

I’m a current Sprawl member and I need to update my credit card information. How do I do this?

  1. Hit this link and put in the email address you used to sign up as a member. You’ll immediately get an email containing a link that will sign you in.
  2. Once you’re in, select “recurring” and then select the active donation.
  3. Under “Payment Method,” select “change payment method.”
  4. Put in your new credit card details and hit “save.”

I’m a current Sprawl member and I want to change the amount of my recurring donation. How do I do this?

  1. Hit this link and put in the email address you used to sign up as a member. You’ll immediately get an email containing a link that will sign you in.
  2. Once you're in, select “recurring” and then select the active donation.
  3. Under “Billing Details,” select “change billing details.”
  4. Change the amount and hit “save.”

I’m a current Sprawl member and I want to cancel my membership. How do I do this?

  1. Hit this link and put in the email address you used to sign up as a member. You’ll immediately get an email containing a link that will sign you in.
  2. Once you're in, select “recurring” and then select the active donation.
  3. At the bottom of the page, hit the red button that says “cancel donation.”

NOTE: If you are supporting us on Patreon, the process for all of the above actions is different. You will need to log into your Patreon account and make changes there.

I want to support The Sprawl but I don’t have a credit card. Can I use any other forms of payment for my membership?

Here are options for supporting The Sprawl without a credit card:

  • You can sign up to make a monthly donation on Patreon, which accepts PayPal in addition to credit cards.
  • You can send an e-transfer to membership@sprawlcalgary.com.

Why does The Sprawl refer to “memberships” and not “subscriptions”?

With a news subscription, you have to pay in order to access a publication’s journalism. We do it the other way around. We make our journalism freely available to all Calgarians—no paywalls!—and then invite you to be a part of it by signing up as a Sprawl member and supporting our independent journalism.

Is my Sprawl membership eligible for the Canadian digital news subscription tax credit? 

No, because our journalism isn’t paywalled. “To qualify for the credit, a digital news subscription must entitle an individual to access” news content, according to the program criteria. This is not the case with The Sprawl since our local journalism is available to everyone, regardless of whether or not they pitch in financially. Your support of The Sprawl ensures we can continue to make our journalism available to all Calgarians, rather than restricting it behind a paywall.
