At The Sprawl, we are gearing up for a new season.
Over the summer, I've enjoyed meeting so many Calgarians at The Sprawl's various pop-ups around town. From Stampede breakfasts to folk fest to community markets, it's been rewarding to share our local history comics and the joy of letterpress printing with you.
The Sprawl exists, in part, to surprise and delight Calgarians. This summer, with our mobile printing operation, we have done just that.

But now it's time to switch gears.
Team Sprawl has been working hard to get ready for Calgary's municipal election. Our candidate tracker, which we are constantly updating, is already the go-to source for Calgarians seeking credible, non-partisan information about who is running and what they're about.
It's looking like eight councillors will not be running for re-election in their wards (the list will be official on September 22, a.k.a Nomination Day). In other words, it's very likely that at least half of city council will be new.
This is very different than the parade of incumbent wins we usually see.
More than 500 people a day are already checking The Sprawl's candidate tracker—and the election isn't until October 20. We've got much more in the hopper for election coverage and I'm very excited to share it with you starting in September.

We are also building a list of all candidate forums and debates—you can find it here. This way, similar to the candidate tracker, people can see in one place which election events are happening and where.
It can be time-consuming and frustrating for people to find this information. We are doing this work so you don't have to.
On our forum page you can already check out and view CJSW's mayoral debate, which happened earlier this week. Meanwhile there are two forums next week in Killarney (Ward 8 and mayoral)—and more to come.
But we need your help to build out this list. If you know of an upcoming election forum that's not on our list, please tell us so we can add it! You can let us know by emailing hello@sprawlcalgary.com. If you have any other election tips, you can send them to the same place.
And! If you value our independent Calgary journalism, please pitch in to support The Sprawl so we can do more of it!
Thanks for your support and see you in September.
