You asked for it!
When The Sprawl announced a new series of Calgary election zines last weekend—one for each of Calgary's 14 wards, plus a mayoral one—we got back a bunch of messages saying: why not make the files available so we can print them out at home?
We heard you and today, after an incredibly busy week, we're making all of the files available digitally so you can print and share The Sprawl's election guides as you wish. You can find the PDFs below. We've also got printed zines available. (More details below.)
Share them in your neighbourhood, your workplace, wherever you can think of!

Elections Calgary's voter information cards are stuck in limbo due to the Canada Post strike, which could lower voter turnout. And kids will be at home next week due to the teachers' strike. An idea: Equip them with election zines and send them on local "paper routes," as our zines contain a QR code that links to information about when and where to vote, in addition to bios on all the councillor candidates in each ward!
However you share our election zines, we'd love to hear about it—and see, too! Email us at hello@sprawlcalgary.com or send a text to Asad Chishti, our roving election reporter, at 587-998-4892.
All week we've been busy livestreaming election forums. On Wednesday I co-moderated the mayoral forum at the Central Library with Lori Williams while Asad livestreamed it for The Sprawl.
On our YouTube channel (make sure to subscribe!) you can watch the full debate with high-quality audio, complete with chapters and timestamps so you can easily navigate to what you're interested in.

On Thursday night, we were back into the wards for another councillor candidate debate, this time at the Cliff Bungalow-Mission Community Centre in Ward 8.
You can watch the whole debate on YouTube, once again with chapters and timestamps, thanks to Asad who also documented the night with his camera (see more of his photos here). More than 120 people showed up!
The sad reality is that at many of these ward forums, we are the only journalists in the room. These things simply would not be covered if The Sprawl was not there. And because we are there and documenting the discussion, making it available to watch online, more Calgarians can better participate in their local democracy.
If you find value in The Sprawl's election coverage, please pitch in to support our work!
If you've already requested zines, Asad will be in touch. If you want some printed ones from us, you can request them here or reach out to Asad. We are doing our best to get these out into the world in a very busy season! Starting Monday, we'll be able to print them on demand at Sprawl HQ at 1510 Kensington Road N.W. Just text Asad first at 587-998-4892 to make sure one of us is there before you come by.
And don't forget to mash that support button!
Print your own Sprawl election zines!
When printing, if your printout shaves off the edges of the printed area, try selecting "scale to fit" or the equivalent and print again. Then make two quick folds (see the GIF below) and your zine is ready!

If you run into issues or have any questions, reach out to Asad Chishti, our roving election reporter, at 587-998-4892. And don't forget to support our work if you value our election coverage!
